The End of the year, The End for this blog.

There’s an unavoidable moment when everything comes to its dusk, completing a cycle just as the Sun follows his path across the sky everyday until it hides far beyond the west. Different times require transformations in Life. So that’s right, with this post this blog reaches its end, at least, the way it has been from its start. In fact, the previous post is the last one in which the main topic is my photography work.

The original name, Ojo de Piedra, “Eye of Stone” was inspired based in my philosophy of life, but also and most importantly, in the way I interact with the world, almost always looking for the light, the textures, the places, the people or the moments I can translate with a camera and a lens in something that is part of my understanding, that has my signature, my vision, or my sense of aesthetics. That said, the main topic of this blog has always been my photography, the places I capture when I travel, documenting my adventures or my ideas, a little talk about photo gear and technique, and the like. In that tune the “eye” fitted really nicely, you know, the act of looking, the camera lens, etc., the full phrase has a lot more meaning behind the three words to it, something much more intimate that is inspired by a fragment of a story from the Aztec philosophy that resonates a lot with my way of thinking about myself.

In the recent months my life has been going through very hard times and that has made me take the tough decision of leading this blog away from what it was and take it into another direction. Thus, from now on my photography will still play a very important role here, but more as a means of expressing the tribulations of my mind, the process of understanding the path my life has followed, my thoughts and feelings as I embark on a journey through my inner self, a personal battle and a struggle that may lead myself through some not so nice places.

For sure there will be more photography oriented content for which I will start a new blog, which means to me the start of a new challenge and a new adventure, one that I’m really looking forward to share with you, so for sure you will be the first to know!!

December 11.

December is usually a month to wrap up things, projects, relationships.

Today this sudden idea of posting everyday for one month comes to its end, an adventure on its own, something to blog about! In fact, before starting the challenge the very idea seemed scary, from the previous experience with Ojo de Piedra my expectations about being able to post daily were not the highest to say the least, but, on the other hand, also from experience I knew a lot of fellow bloggers post every day so, why not?

It wasn’t so easy though, trying to come up with an idea every day even though I made up a list of possible themes to have at hand the mood of the day, the need for much more time to work on a post, or in some cases suddenly knowing about something important to write about made me change my mind and plans. Many days developing the idea had to take place in the evening or late at night because of the tasks I had at home for the day, or because I had to take a stroll downtown or other areas of the city, Mexico City which is really really huge, or the long hours I had to devote to a project that involves promoting my images, taking care of my cats, etc, etc.

The experience has been very rewarding, enjoyable the most of the time, and some days struggling with myself fighting the feel of being tired, or not with enough inspiration, but at last a whole lot of learning. Now I feel more confident about what I can do, to let life flow trough words and sentences without being under so much pressure of finding the “right” topic or story. I don’t really have the hang of blogging yet though, there is a lot to improve, especially dealing with the interaction with people that honour me with their likes and comments, with the new followers of this blog whom which I’m very very thankful, and with the authors of the blogs I follow, from which I get so much learning and inspiration.

So, this year has reached the Holiday season, soon it will be gone, just as this month of blogging ends here, though, more than that it’s more of a start, for this post certainly is not the last, thanks everyone!!

Staring at the lights

5 years of WordPress

Today I’m celebrating that 5 years ago I started up this blog with WordPress. At first, despite the statement that one can start blogging in five minutes, the task of all the decisions that have to be made about the structure of the site, the choice of theme, and the learning curve of all the tricks of the trade takes its time, for me it took several weeks and even today I have a lot yet to learn. However, the experience is very much rewarding, and having the chance to share my images, thoughts, ideas and experiences with the world is what still drives me to improve in blogging, I hope it just will get better.

11, 11.

November 11, a good day to get back again to the blogging days! This part of the season brings more chances to be contemplative, and the first few days of december are the warming up for Christmas, with all its joy, and before the rush to get ready all the presents, trying to give a hug to everyone, the cooking of all the dishes for that very special dinner, and do lots of things before the year reaches its end.

For me it’s been really tough sometimes to do everything that needs to be done. Until now I haven’t found a good recipe for making enough time to post here and comment on my facebook profile, all the groups I belong to, twitter, instagram, and more recently my facebook fan page (lets not talk about reviewing email please), and also making images, editing, post processing, and finding ways to market my work, so I’m not sure how I’m going to accomplish this crazy project: Blogging every day from today november 11 until december 11.

I know, for those of you who have followed this blog, for which I’m very thankful, it might seem a little crazy (or a lot) since the frequency of my posting has never been even close to that. I’ve always wanted this blog to be the main showcase of my photographic experiences close to home and when I travel, so I’m seeing this challenge as an opportunity to get myself more into it and making it part of my routine. In fact, I see this opportunity like sort of a new beginning, like every morning when the sun rises and lights the day.

So the board is set, I’ll do my best during this following month to share with you everyday a new post, be it about a story, an image, even a simple thought, in english or spanish, or both if I have the chance. I’m sure that at least for me it’s going to be a rewarding experience, and I really hope you enjoy it, cheers!
